Cultivating Relationship

Smith Frozen Foods, Inc…
A Growing Commitment to Service

To us, service means listening to customer suggestions, and implementing their ideas at our facilities. Our leadership in quality control systems came from customer ideas. For example, we installed equipment to better eliminate foreign material from our products. Our variety of carrot cuts also originated from a variety of customer needs.

Maybe we're obsessed with processing perfect frozen foods, but it's our business to make sure you get the best product available.

Our commitment to service begins in the office: Whatever your reason for calling, we're here to listen. We're always looking for ways to make it easier - and more cost-effective - for you to operate your business. And if you have a question about quality, we'll go to an independent source to check our standards. For us, the challenge of good service does not end when we ship your products. It's an ongoing goal. It must be done right, and it must be done right every time. We want to earn your business every day.

Working with Growers from the Ground Up

The character of our organization begins with our growers. It's a special relationship, and is connected to every phase of what we do. Quality control begins in the fields before planting.

And because our plant is so close to the growing area, we are able to maximize the freshness of our product.

Thanks to our climate and soil, this corner of northeast Oregon is the prime pea-growing area in the world.

Peas go from field to freezer within two hours. Corn is in the freezer within four hours. These advantages have made it possible for Smith Frozen Foods to represent an average of 8 to 15 percent of all U.S. frozen peas, corn and diced carrots. That amount of product allows us to fill your orders with confidence - whatever your size, whatever your needs.

And because of our grower relationships, our location and our equipment, we can keep costs low, without sacrificing quality.

Combining the Best in Innovation, Technology and Service

A Smith Tradition Since 1919

Nature perfected the pea. At Smith Frozen Foods we've worked hard to keep it that way.

Since 1919, we've been a leader in the industry, combining established procedures with innovative service, traditional products with cutting edge technology, and old-fashioned cooperation with state-of-the-art facilities. For example, we developed our own cold storage operation, giving our customers a quality, service and cost-advantage.

We have over 250,000 square feet of cold storage area, with a capacity of holding over 130 million pounds of product.

The best in innovation, technology and service - Smith Frozen Foods.

Perfecting the Process

At Smith Frozen Foods, we're always looking for ways to improve our already high standards. For example, we implemented hazard analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) after analyzing a customer's request to do so. Long before other organizations were considering these controls, we were looking for ways to expand HACCP, and continue to refine methods of checking and controlling product quality. Our checkpoints begin in the field, where we test soils. In the plant, we continually evaluate our methods: when we determine new ways to eliminate foreign materials from our vegetables, we buy the equipment to meet our requirements. In the lab, temperatures of products are checked regularly during repacking and freezing.

In the frozen food business, there's no room for deviation or irregularity.

From examining raw materials in the field to double checking final products at distribution, Smith Frozen Foods consistently looks for ways to upgrade food safety. Following minimum requirements is just not enough - and we will continue to pursue new ways to make quality and safety our highest priority.
